We find inspiration in the liminal space between urban and rural, nature and culture. Our urban studio is based in Oakland, CA, where we’ve participated in the evolution of the city for over twenty years. We have enjoyed working with diverse communities in the Bay Area including San Francisco, Santa Cruz, San Jose, Walnut Creek and Oakland as well as cities nationwide including Charlotte, San Diego, Cincinnati and Denver. The Wowhaus rural studio, located just sixty miles north of San Francisco near California’s wild Sonoma Coast, is an ongoing, land-based experiment in innovation born of rural domesticity.
An extension of our daily lives, the rural studio is a place to incubate ideas, build prototypes, grow food, and host projects and production. Sited on over three rambling acres comprised of apple orchard, open meadow, vegetable gardens, dwellings and outbuildings, home and studio overlap in both proximity and function. We have robust fabrication capabilities in a variety of media, and build project-specific teams from our network of talented friends and neighbors.
