Deep Craft Field Lab: Open Source Bioregional Invention
Mildred's Lane, Beach Lake, Pennsylvania
> DEEP CRAFT
Scott worked with students at Mildred's Lane to develop a material/product epitomizing the attributes of the bioregion. Working collaboratively as an atelier, the group will make excursions exploring both natural and cultural resources and opportunities. The group will actively experiment with altering and transforming foraged materials, suggesting plausible new scenarios for further development.
The Mildreds Lane Fellows created a pole lathe using entirely materials from the land, and explored its performance cutting green wood, split and foraged from recently fallen trees of beech, hickory and white oak. The long term goal for Deep Craft: Open Source Bioregional Innovation, is to develop a new chair design in the tradition of the Windsor that is identified as an icon of Mildreds Lane. David Brooks, Tyler McPhee and other Fellows experimented with creating simpler products for use on the grounds and indoors as part of the daily routine at Mildreds Lane. www.mildred'slane.com
